What We Believe

JESUS

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people and personal, visible return to earth. As part of God’s universal church, we seek to help people know and obey Jesus Christ, the living Son of God, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

SALVATION

Salvation is God’s deliverance of people from His wrath through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. All of mankind has rebelled against God and is condemned to eternal death and separation from Him. Jesus, God’s Son, was sent to die in the place of condemned sinners to make it possible for them to be brought back into a right relationship with their Creator. Through faith in Jesus, who was raised from the dead, people can experience God’s forgiveness and have hope of eternal life with Him.

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, with supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. The Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to man and is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth – without any mixture of error – for its matter. All Scripture is a testimony to Jesus Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

About Us

Our Story

Grace Baptist started as a Bible study for college students at the University of South Dakota (USD) in 1978 and soon grew to become Grace Baptist Church, a diverse community of people who loves, serves, and is a part of the entire Vermillion community. Staying true to our roots, we continue to serve the USD community as well, through our college Bible study.

Evan Welcher, Senior Pastor

Evan Welcher, his wife Rachel, and their daughter Hildegaard, moved to Vermillion in 2021 to pastor Grace Baptist Church. Evan is a theologian and author whose greatest desire for the Church is to prepare them for life, death, and resurrection.

Church Life

We gather every Sunday at 10 a.m. to worship through music, the preaching of the Word, the Lord’s table, and the fellowship of the saints. We have Sunday school and a nursery during the service, and weekly small groups and a college Bible study. We are eager to get to know you!
